'''Michael Ryan''' (właśnie '''Michael Joseph Ryan''') jest kanadyjskim paleontologiem pracującym na Uniwersytecie Carleton w Ottawie, gdzie obecnie zajmuje stanowisko adiunkta w Departamencie Nauk o Ziemi.
Wcześniej piastował stanowisko kierownika paleontologii kręgowców w Muzeum Historii Naturalnej w Cleveland oraz dyrektora ds. edukacji i programów publicznych w Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology w Drumheller.

Swoje badania prowadzi nad systematyką, tafonomią oraz paleoekologią dinozaurów żyjących w zachodniej części Ameryki Północnej i Mongolii, w szczególności przedstawicielami [[Ceratopsia]]. Swoje główne badania prowadzi w ramach projektu Southern Alberta Dinosaur Program, w którym współpracuje z [[Evans|Davidem Evansem]]. Interesuje się również historią ewolucji, plakodermami z późnego dewonu oraz ewolucją krokodylomorfów.

W trakcie swojej kariery prowadził lub współprowadził ekspedycje w Kanadzie, Stanach Zjednoczonych, Mongolii, Grenlandii, Ameryce Południowej i Afryce. Opisał wiele nowych gatunków dinozaurów, z czego najwięcej ceratopsów i jest autorem ponad 200 artykułów naukowych i prezentacji konferencyjnych.
